Inbox From Hell
Read the email. Find the hinge. Decide what becomes official.
Welcome to NetherHelp, where every refund request has teeth, the hold music knows your name, and the policy manual edits itself after midnight.
Inbox From Hell is a darkly funny support-desk roguelite about close reading under pressure. Identify the detail that changes each case, choose a reply you can defend, and live with what the office remembers. Policy may protect the company. Empathy may protect the customer. Exorcism may protect the furniture.
Current browser build: v0.23.0 / evidence-desk.1
New: the Evidence Workbench
- Investigate six connected case files: trace suspicious headers, compare contradictory records, and review unsettling audio evidence.
- Work from a living policy manual: revision histories expose rules that disagree with themselves—and sometimes with the email in front of you.
- Decide what becomes official: preserve, restrict, or contest each record. Your filing choice changes authored follow-ups, the final forecast, and which version of events the archive keeps.
- Open the After-Hours archive: revisit counterfactual records and discover what the desk says would have happened if you had chosen differently.
- Watch the desktop change: case discoveries unlock new desk evidence and cosmetic themes without spending campaign resources.
- Tune the horror, not the challenge: independently reduce insects, eyes, possession, blood, distorted voices, religious imagery, confinement, or interface corruption. Substitute presentation preserves the clue.
Why the inbox keeps calling
- 50 authored tickets across eight shifts, including recurring customers, delayed consequences, three relationship arcs, and three signature cases.
- A global 30-level Personnel Network shared by three local career desks, with six clearance bands, three specialization tracks, and nine bounded passive abilities.
- Learn by doing: optional Deskcraft coaching teaches a reusable reading loop, explains why a reply worked, and becomes quieter as your judgment improves.
- Mysteries with memory: eight evolving Unclosed Files, ten Sealed Record fragments, three playable inquiries, six mastery assignments, and evidence-backed investigation findings.
- Build your desk: six permanent office rooms, eight risky artifacts, seven named artifact-pair builds, department relics, emergencies, and one-item carryover.
- No retention traps: no daily streaks, expiring chores, randomized reward boxes, paid boosts, ads, or required account.
Read carefully. Survive the audit.
- Most exact gauges and forecasts begin sealed—the message itself is your evidence.
- Every reply earns an A–F case grade, explains the judgment, and reveals its consequences.
- Strong reads earn case points, Insight, time, and global Network XP. Missed briefs cost time, add audit pressure, and can end the assignment.
- Critical emails, queue surges, and office emergencies interrupt the normal shift with focused deadlines and authored fallout.
- Choose forgiving First Week, intended Night Shift, or severe Hell Desk. Deadline, queue, and hint assists can change anytime without reducing rewards.
The fiction under the paperwork
NetherHelp insists the inbox is only customer service. The evidence suggests replies may be classification rituals: each answer authorizes one contradictory version of reality to persist. Dates arrive from years that never happened. Personnel records list employees before they were born. Offline devices leave voicemails in your own voice. Some customers remember the version of the world your last answer erased.
This is a fictional fringe supernatural setting, not a claim about real institutions or events. The horror asks “what if?”—then leaves enough evidence on the desk for you to decide what you believe.
Your desk, your reading space
Resize the email/reply divider and reference panels, choose 100–200% email text, adjust line spacing, open Focus or Full Email views, remap shortcuts, and save the layout with your career. Long subjects, names, policy rules, and reply hints are protected from crushing the message area.
Accessibility options include high contrast, forced-color support, reduced motion, low-spec mode, visible keyboard focus, 44 px touch targets, sound captions, music ducking, separate music/effects controls, no-penalty pacing assists, and the new granular horror presentation controls. English text only; formal human screen-reader and broad physical-device reviews remain in progress.
Saving and privacy
Progress autosaves in this browser. Backup downloads one portable .ifh-save file; Restore uses a normal file picker. Checksums, transaction journaling, recovery snapshots, and pre-upgrade safety copies protect older careers.
Automatic saves stay in the browser and hosting origin where you play; they are not cloud saves. Normal public play sends no game-owned analytics or telemetry. The hosting platform may process data under its own policy.
